THE DUVAL COTTAGEThe Duval Cottage is named after the main Street in Key West but the style is found throughout the island and throughout the South. Our cottage was designed with either of two porch styles, the double tiered style, usually credited to French Cajun architecture or the Neo-Classic Greek Revival which has a smaller porch that creates a classical Greek pediment as its entry. Both styles became popular in the early 19th Century are typical of Key West, New Orleans and many Southern Cities built throughout the 19th Century. The Duval Homes feature large front porches, traditional operable shutters, hardwood staircases and a large island kitchen. The homes are detailed with classical gingerbread rails and capitals and finished both inside and out with multiple molding styles. One nice feature of the house, which is not immediately apparent, is the large usable full height attic which measures some 12' by 30' long and is framed with delightful sloping ceiling and contains 2 full bedrooms and a bath. The space is ideal for children's rooms or as a quiet retreat for office or study. The home was specifically designed for ease of construction and has a minimal amount of wasted space. This is a house we can recommend for construction by an owner/builder. The extensive gingerbread, rails, trim patterns and staircase details are included in our detailed plan sets. |
